#21 Limestone School 
Limestone School was located on HWY D about 2 miles north of HWY E, northwest of Santa Rosa, MO.  The original location was a mile further north.  The earliest records are from 1885 and continue until annexed by Maysville District in 1952.  The original building, built on stone piled foundation was replaced in 1908 with a sturdy, well-built building.  

County Rural Schools Remembered

County Commissioners and Historical Society are working to preserve the history of the rural schools. You will see these signs at the former sites of the schools. More information on the school can be found at the DCHS Museum across from the courthouse in Maysville.

#1- Rogers School
In 1887, Rogers School was located in the SE corner of DeKalb County.  A one-room brick building was named in honor the Captain Rogers who gave the land for the school.  The brick building was expanded in 1900 to four rooms and lasted untila fire destroyed it in 1924.  A new frame building was build and occupied in 1925.
#2 Harris School
On April21, 1874 neighbors near the Harris farm organized Harris School.
 They decided on a 4 month term.
​The building burned in the night in late 1916.  In 1917 a new building was erected by Billie West.

#3 Mt Pleasant School
  The Mount Pleasant school was built in 1877 and was known as the Auten School, named after a family nearby.  The winter term was taught by a man teacher and the summer term was taught by a woman teacher.   At one time it had as many as 50 students.

#4 Liberty School  
School records exist from 1881-1950.  A state approved school in the 1930s, the students won the Social Science award in 1934.  The existence of the building is in the newspapers as of 1870 and one report is that it was originally erected in 1850.

#5 Summit School
was built in 1877 on one acre of land purchased for $40.00 from Elias Parrott and his wife.  The students of Miss Erma Davis, some pictured here, often chose a country for the year and their course of study revolved around that country.  They studied art, music, math history, geography, civics.

#6 Garden Prarie School
Classes organized in 1858, School building built in 1911 by Frank Owen. Classes continued until 1947. Students joined Cameron school in 1952.

#18 Round Top School
A unique building built in 1878 by Willis Burton is a geometric nearly round shape which was architecturally fashionable and more economical to build. The school closed in 1954. Efforts to preserve it eventually failed but a beautiful scale model is located at the DCHS Museum complete with miniature furniture.

#52 Pleasant Grove School
First Building was in 1874 with 50 students. Current building 1910. School ran until 1942 and students went to Clarksdale school. Located on Hwy O, 2 1/2miles east of Clarksdale. Restoration has been done and you may be able to enter to view the interior.
